Sony/ATV-signed Alicia Keys is to receive the Songwriter Icon Award from the National Music Publishers’ Association (NMPA).
The 15-time Grammy winner will be presented with the award at the trade association’s Annual Meeting, which will take place at The Edison Ballroom in Times Square, New York City on Wednesday, June 13.
NMPA President & CEO David Israelite said: “We are incredibly excited to honor the legendary Alicia Keys. She’s a songwriter icon, but she is also an icon of confidence and encouragement to all. Through her writing, performing, philanthropy, mentoring and advocacy for fair compensation for her fellow songwriters, she is a true force for good in our industry and beyond.
“She wrote the phenomenal ‘Songs in A Minor’ as a teenager and hasn’t slowed down since. Keys is synonymous with the anthem for New York City, and we could not be more privileged to present her with our Songwriter Icon Award in the Empire State this June.”
Israelite will deliver his State of the Industry Address at the annual NMPA event, which will bring together many of the industry’s leading figures to celebrate music creators as well as discuss key issues. It will also give out a series of awards to songwriters and executives.
