Discover the unseen craft behind the world’s greatest art in motion

To celebrate its 70th anniversary, the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) invited everyone to Be Part of the Story – a campaign that highlighted the craft behind the world’s greatest art in motion. The campaign extends the conversation well beyond the awards season and reinforces BAFTA’s core mission: to help talent enter and flourish in the moving art industries. AKQA worked as creative partner with BAFTA to define the positioning, strategy and art direction for Be Part of the Story – from bespoke illustrations to award programmes and ticket design.

Working with up-and-coming artists, one unique visual will be created for each of the five annual BAFTA award shows – Film, Games, Television, Television Craft and Children’s. Each illustration will shine a light on the skill, craft and devotion that goes into every award-worthy project.

For the EE British Academy Film Awards, illustrator David Doran applied his rich and playful graphic style to an artwork that reveals the diverse team of talent involved in the film industry – from directors and actors through to choreographers, stylists and foley artists. The artwork is used on BAFTA’s social channels, website and sites across London.

Emma Baehr, Director of Awards, BAFTA said: “From the very beginning, AKQA made every effort to understand our mission and aims for the upcoming awards season. The team responded to the challenges we posed with ease and have delivered a campaign that far exceeds the original brief. We are delighted with the Film Awards strategy and creative and look forward to working with AKQA for the 2017 awards season and beyond.”

Paul Ostryzniuk, Associate Creative Director, AKQA said: “BAFTA has championed talent and craft in the moving arts industries for seven decades. It's an honour to begin our partnership inspired by BAFTA's central purpose - to start conversations, elevate new audiences and enable the next generation of world-class storytellers.”

The EE British Academy Film Awards took place on Sunday 12 February at the Royal Albert Hall, London. The ceremony was hosted by Stephen Fry and broadcast exclusively on BBC One and BBC One HD. The ceremony was also broadcast in all major territories around the world.

On the night, www.bafta.org featured a live red carpet show as well as photography and winners interviews. Dedicated coverage can be found across social networks including Facebook, Twitter, (@BAFTA / #EEBAFTAs), Snapchat and Instagram.
